Fat Daddio’s Anodized Aluminum 8-Inch Angel Food Cake Pan Review

I purchased 2 of these pans to make Jeanne Robertson’s 7-Up Cake. The quality of the pans is great. Very light weight, yet very rugged. The rolled rim is just enough of a “handle” to grip the pans securely. Since they are aluminum, they heat and bake evenly. The price was very reasonable. The size of these pans, 8″ diameter, is difficult to find in my area, so finding them online was a great find, and the price was an added bonus. I would highly recommend these pans. Although I am a novice at baking, especially cakes from scratch, these pans make it almost foolproof to ruin any recipe. Not only do I recommend these pans, but I highly recommend the vendor as well. Got them delivered very quickly. Once again, Amazon.com came through for me.

I bought this rack to fit in an All Clad flared roasting pan that I got from Williams-Sonoma that originally came with an attachment for roasting a chicken. I went to WS to see if they’d just sell the rack, but no luck. After searching online for a while and not being able to find the same one I saw in the store, I settled with this one, knowing it was for the petite roti pan which had a rack that would also fit in my pan. When I got to the cart to checkout, the picture had changed to match the one I was originally seeking. The one that I wanted ended up being shipped (not the one pictured here, but pictured in the cart), and it worked out great. My only gripe is a “made in china” sticker which I could not get off cleanly and left a bunch of residue on the rack.

CucinaPro 220-03 Piccolo Pizzelle Baker Review

This past holiday season, I searched everywhere for a pizzelle maker that made smaller pizzelles, and I finally found this one — exactly what I wanted. It makes four 3″ cookies per batch rather than the one or two larger 5″ pizzelles made by the most common makers. Despite this, the dimensions are still small enough (the iron is 6″ deep x10″ wide, with an additional 4 inches or so for the handle) to store easily when not in use. The nonstick surface needs to be sprayed or brushed with high temperature oil once per session, and the pizzelles never stick.
Operation is simple: you place one-inch balls or a couple of teaspoons of dough, depending on the recipe, in the center of each mold, then close the lid, locking it in place with the metal clip attached to the top handle. Although the instructions estimate approximately 40-50 seconds of cooking per batch, I found that it took a couple of minutes to get mine to the right doneness, but, of course, that may be recipe specific. It does take some experimentation to get the dough placed just right to get centered pizzelles, something that I never found a problem with a bigger pizzelle maker that I used years ago. Even off-center pizzelles cook perfectly — they just don’t look as nice. It took me an entire batch to get comfortable, so, if you’re planning to make these for an occasion, make sure you allow yourself enough time to practice. The instructions recommend placing the dough just behind the center, but I found that to be horrible advice. Put the balls in the center of each impression, and adjust from there. I had no problem with unevenly cooked or burned cookies, nor did I find that I had to work exceptionally fast.
The pizzelle maker comes with a small, wooden cone shaper. The size of both the cone and the pizzelles makes for tiny waffle cones, something that would be cute as toppers for a bowl of ice cream or for sampling a few flavors, but not very practical for most people. For real waffle cones, I use my machine specifically for that purpose.
This maker makes wonderful pizzelles and stroopwafels in a manageable size. I highly recommend it!

You can’t unless it’s a cheap piece of wood but this is NOT… this is a quality pin, beautifully finished, fits the hand perfectly, and from rolling out laminated doughs for croissant, to pie crusts, hey even using it to pound (well covered in plastic wrap) chicken breasts paper thin… this is a tool that gets some USE!
